These clients were looking for a compact design that felt spacious and open. This house is less than 1000 square feet, but it feels very spacious with its open floor plan, bright natural light, and tall cathedral ceiling. The windows are all triple glazed casement windows, keeping out the cold and heat, but allowing for plenty of enjoyment of this forested property. Great effort and human muscle-power was used by these clients to clear their lot and driveway, and they wanted to honor these trees in their new house. So, using a portable sawmill, we milled all the exposed 2nd floor joists, posts, beams, collar ties, and timbers for the entry porch. The board and batten siding and trim were also made from locally grown hemlock, complimenting the rustic yet refined aesthetic. These clients told us that they love their new house, and that "it's like living in a work of art!"
